Hong Kong - Day 2: Hong Kong Disney! (of course)

Of course, no trip would be complete for the Meyers girls without a trip to Hong Kong Disneyland! Some people think we are crazy for even trying to go, but we had a really good time. Bill even surprised us by joining us and forgoing some of his shopping. Wow! He must love his girls!

Bill, especially, loves Hong Kong because the people and businesses all operate on "Bill-time." Many of the shops don't even open until 11 a.m. and then are open until 10 or 11 p.m. The Disney gates opened at 10 and the park opened at 10:30, which Bill thought was awesome after having to get up so early for "Extra Magical Hours" at the parks located in the States. This late start time was perfect for us because Hong Kong Disneyland is located on Lantau Island, which takes about 45 minutes to get to by metro. After taking two different subways, we were able to board the special Disney metro, which was so unbelievably cute with its Disney-themed features!

Hong Kong Disney looks just like The Magic Kingdom, but on a smaller scale. Since we are completely familiar with the park layout, it was very easy for us to navigate to get to our favorite spots.

Many Chinese children were dressed in graduation robes for Disney Graduate Day. I'm not sure what it all entailed, but the kids were adorable.

We loved seeing signs in English and Chinese.

Wendy likes to move, so the Mad Hatter's Tea Cups were the perfect first ride. Fantasy Land was empty in the morning, so we were the only ones on it!

I love this shot, which I found on the camera. We took turns riding roller coasters and staying with Wendy. Apparently, Bill took this one of himself on Space Mountain. Look who is having fun now!

No, this is not our child. This is what we call a "Boompa cheater shot." We thought it would press our luck to pose with any characters, but they were all there just like at the Disney parks in the U.S.

They are getting ready to ride the Grizzly Gulch mine train roller coaster. I think they got in trouble for having the camera out right after this photo was taken.

Now, this shot is legal.

If they take the camera out again, they may become permanent residents of Grizzly Gulch jail.

Wendy is wearing her "Princess in Training" shirt. Right after this shot, Mickey and Minnie walked by and waved to Wendy.

Wendy loves listening to music, so this group kept her entertained while we took turns on the roller coasters. She is leaning forward because she dropped her sticker right at this moment.

We couldn't pass up the St. Louis Seed Co. sign.

 Toy Story Land is unique to Hong Kong Disney and is kind of like Cars Land in California. We really enjoyed several attractions in this part of the park, which was completely new to us.

 A highlight of the day was definitely riding "It's a Small World." This is a sentimental favorite ride anyway, but took on a whole new meaning having Wendy ride it with us. Combining my loves--Disney, China, Wendy--made this ride even more special and one of those emotional full-circle moments. I found myself getting choked up as we passed the Chinese section of the attraction. The best part was this was definitely Wendy's favorite ride as she giggled and clapped her hands to the music throughout.

She loved the 3D glasses and got excited during the show. That's my girl!

Time to say "goodbye" or "Zai Jain" to Disney

After Disneyland, the girls went to the hotel pool to cool off and Bill finally got to do some shopping in Causeway Bay. Bill wished we had had one more day to do more shopping. Unfortunately, the tailor shop he loved doesn't ship to the U.S., but he was able to buy some mango colored wingtip shoes with lug soles.
